  • 6-8 medium limes or lime juice (unsweetened) + extra for garnish
  • 1 jalapeno pepper
  • 1 Cup white sugar
  • 1 Cup water
  • 12 oz of your favorite tequila (gold or silver work great)
  • salt for the rim (optional)

Extra Equipment Needed at the Campsite

  • shot glass (or other way to measure liquid)
  • ice
  • cup for serving

Step 1 - Make Jalapeno Simple Syrup

  1. Trim off top of jalapeno and cut in half lengthwise.

  2. Place sugar, water, and sliced jalapeno in a pot. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.

  3. Reduce heat to a simmer and continue cooking for 12 minutes.

  4. Strain pepper and seeds from mixture. Allow to cool and refrigerate.

Step 2 - Juice and Cut Limes

  1. Cut limes in half and squeeze as much juice from them as possible.

  2. If using lime for garnish, cut one lime into wedges.

  3. Refrigerate lime juice and wedges until ready to use.

Step 3 - Create Margarita Mixture

  1. Combine lime juice and jalapeno simple syrup in equal parts (1:1).

  2. Do this 2-24 hours in advance of serving to allow flavors to meld. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Step 4 - Mix and Enjoy

  1. Combine 2 parts margarita mixture to 1 part tequila (add more tequila to taste).

  2. Pour over ice and enjoy!
